Debrief: November 24, 2013 – Walk for History

Yesterday we braved the wind and joined the Friends of Jackson House for the Walk For History across the Walkway Over The Hudson.  It was a small but passionate group of people.  We had a poster up explaining our successful “path to preservation,” which is something the Friends of Jackson House are looking to do for the Jackson House in Fishkill which is threatened with demolition.  Unfortunately the Village of Fishkill does not have a historic commission like the Town of Poughkeepsie, even though they have a historic district.

Here are a few photos from the event:

“Dutchess Treasures” Exhibit

The exhibit “Dutchess Treasures” at the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center features historic sites from around the county. Artwork of the Kimlin Cider Mill, created at various years, is included in the exhibit. The exhibit runs until October 31, 2013 and is open Tuesday through Friday from 11:30am to 4:30pm at 317 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Front Facade

The front facade of the Mill contained some rotten wood and the paint was no longer fresh.  With the help of a carpenter and numerous volunteers, the facade was given an update with some new wood boards and a fresh coat of paint.  In addition, some of the doors were changed, and new plexiglass placed in the windows.
